A Surprise Proposal on the Bund << Hong Yun & Bryan >>

When Bryan first messaged us, he had one big idea: surprise Hong Yun with a proposal, and have it all captured without her noticing. He needed a Shanghai proposal photographer who could blend in, stay out of the way, and catch every real reaction. Challenge accepted.
Secret proposal photography in Shanghai is all about planning. We picked 7:30 am on the Bund, partly to beat the crowds and partly for that soft morning light. Bryan and I agreed on a rendezvous point, and I settled into the quiet side of the Bund, with the Lujiazui skyline standing tall behind the spot. An early start meant fewer crowds and a little more privacy for such an important moment.
The weather had other plans, though. Rain, of course. But we decided to embrace it. Umbrellas, wet pavement and moody skies gave the whole morning a calm, cinematic feel, and honestly, it suited the moment perfectly.
Hong Yun had no idea. When Bryan got down on one knee, her face said everything: surprise, happy tears, laughter, one very long hug. And yes, she said yes!
After the proposal, we kept things relaxed with a casual photoshoot along the historic side of the Bund, across Waibaidu Bridge, and around Suzhou Creek for a few last frames. No stiff poses, just two people who had just gotten engaged and were soaking it all in. That’s what we love about engagement photography in Shanghai: within a few blocks, you get skyline views, old architecture and quiet corners.
For the editing, we went with a natural, film-inspired look, using soft pastel tones and gentle colors to complement the overcast weather and the mood of the morning. Bryan and Hong Yun absolutely loved the photos, and we loved being part of their day. As Shanghai proposal photographers, these are exactly the kinds of stories we love capturing.
